I'm Sofie Buckminster, an M.S. candidate at Columbia Journalism School. My work has appeared in Semafor, the Concord Monitor, 9th St Journal and INDY Week magazine.
I do all kinds of print journalism, from local community disputes to tracking international conflicts, and enjoy taking photos and videos to supplement my writing. Right now, I'm exploring how war and economic sanctions can impact communities environmentally, especially with regards to agriculture and food security.
I graduated from Duke University in 2025 with a degree in psychology and journalism studies. Since then, I've worked as a researcher on an upcoming Committee to Protect Journalists report, published a long form profile of an American man who lobbied against lead contamination in post-2021 Afghanistan, reported locally throughout NYC and started my studies at Columbia. My coursework has focused on environmental writing, conflict reporting and OSINT techniques.
